Quick answer — Soulframe virtues (Courage, Spirit, Grace)
TL;DR: Virtues are Soulframe's three core stats — Courage, Spirit, Grace. Each raises Life (HP), scales weapon attunement pips into bonus damage, and empowers one Pact Arcanic slot; in P15 you allocate them free per loadout in Arsenal → Virtues.
- What are they? Three core stats — Courage (melee / heavy), Spirit (magick), Grace (ranged / agile) — that raise Life, scale weapon attunement, and power one Pact Arcanic each (1st / 2nd / 3rd slot).
- How do you gain points? You start with 16 Virtue points and earn +1 per Envoy Rank (see envoy-leveling). Preludes 15: reallocate free per loadout in Arsenal → Virtues — Virtue Lith was removed (no consumable respec).
- Weapons & pacts: Weapons list gold/silver attunement pips per Virtue; if your total is below the weapon requirement, you get no attunement bonus. Match Virtue to your weapon family, then pick a Pact — starter examples: Wulder (Courage), Thistle (Grace), Gwylen (Spirit). Browse the full weapon catalog; onboarding: Beginner's guide · Leveling.
Courage, Spirit, and Grace each affect more than raw stats — here's how they impact HP, weapon Attunement, Pact abilities, and defenses. For the action side of fighting (combos, parries, finishers) see Combat mechanics.
How do Virtues work after Preludes 15?
In P15 Virtues are fully free. Reallocate Courage / Spirit / Grace per loadout in Arsenal → Virtues — no consumable, no cost (Virtue Lith removed; Virtue Prisms historical only). Points are still progression-gated (start 16, +1 per Envoy Rank), but once earned they move anywhere — experiment freely.
Totems / talismans (P15): equip on the Courage / Spirit / Grace trifecta; they interact with Runes and Smites — see Totems P15.
Virtue system timeline (P13 → 14.5 → P15)
| Generation | Era | How allocation worked |
|---|---|---|
| Virtue Prisms | P13 | Points were auto-allocated by a prism system — no free choice. |
| Virtue Lith | 14.5 | Points moved via Virtue Lith (consumable) and the Balance slider — respec cost material. |
| Fully free | P15 | Virtue Lith removed — adjust free per loadout in Arsenal → Virtues. |
New in P15? Only the last row matters: allocation is free, Virtue Lith is no longer farmed.
The three Virtues at a glance
| Virtue | Life (HP) per point | Weapon family | Pact slot | Reported hidden bonus |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Courage | Highest of the three | Long blades, heavy, polearms, shields | 1st Arcanic | Ability Strength |
| Spirit | +3 Life | Magick staves | 2nd Arcanic | Ability Duration + −1.5% cooldown per point over 2 |
| Grace | Moderate | Bows, short blades, rapiers | 3rd Arcanic | Ability Range + headshot / sneak multipliers |
You start with 16 points and gain +1 per Envoy Rank; each loadout stores its own split.
Courage — the frontline stat
- Life (HP): the highest Life bonus per point of the three — the tank stat for trading hits. Community trackers sometimes round Virtue Life gains to "+10 per point"; values have shifted across Preludes, so trust the Arsenal tooltip.
- Weapon attunement: scales long blades, heavy weapons, polearms, and shields. Wulder is the starter Courage weapon; Needleseye is the endgame pick.
- Pact hidden bonus: community-reported (not yet verified in-game) — Courage appears to boost Ability Strength, the raw power of every Pact's 1st Arcanic.
- Frontline Pacts: Tethren, Ode Tempest, and Mora's Hand all key off Courage.
Spirit — the caster stat
- Life (HP): +3 Life per point — the lowest of the three, which is why caster builds feel glassy.
- Weapon attunement: scales magick staves — Gwylen is the starter.
- Pact hidden bonus: Spirit cuts all Arcanic cooldowns by 1.5% per point over 2; community reports also point to Ability Duration — 2nd-Arcanic buffs and zones last longer with more Spirit.
- Caster Pacts: Garren Rood (control) and Oscelda (support) are the Spirit-first picks.
Grace — the agile stat
- Life (HP): a moderate Life bonus per point — between Spirit and Courage.
- Weapon attunement: scales bows, short blades, and rapiers — Thistle is the starter. Weapons with natural Grace attunement gain an extra +0.3 hidden damage per point of Grace (does not apply to Joinery-added attunement).
- Pact hidden bonus: community reports point to Ability Range — 3rd-Arcanic zones and projectiles reach further with more Grace. Grace also scales headshot and sneak-attack multipliers and lowers sneak detection.
- Agile Pacts: Sirin (stealth) and Duelo (precision) key off Grace.
Data caveat: the Strength / Duration / Range mapping is community-reported (single source, 待复测) — a build-planning guide, not confirmed tooltip math.
Defense: Physical, Magical, and Stability
Virtues don't stack defense directly — they gate it: armour has its own attunement, and below an armour piece's requirement you only get its lowest rating (same threshold rule as weapons). Community framing splits defense into three dimensions (community-reported — the in-game UI shows one overall armour rating):
- Physical — melee / projectile mitigation; heavy armour like the Rook set trades mobility for raw physical defense.
- Magical — magick-damage mitigation; matters most against Ode and spirit enemies.
- Stability — poise: punishment absorbed before stagger; some Joineries reduce the stability cost of parrying.
The requirement threshold is confirmed behavior; the three dimension names are community labels. Full armour system: Armour overview; Defence-slot totems: Runes & enchanting.
Weapon attunement (pips)
Weapons show gold/silver pips per Virtue; damage scales with Courage×(Courage pips÷2) + Spirit×(Spirit pips÷2) + Grace×(Grace pips÷2). Below the weapon's requirement = no attunement bonus.
Attunement numbers — what each pip is worth
Community-measured, single source (待复测): per-pip values below come from a single community measurement (S21), not re-tested in-game — a guide, not gospel.
- Each pip = 0.5 damage per point of the matching Virtue.
- Caps at 5 pips = 2.5 damage per point — marked by a gold-trimmed pip row (full pips).
- Grace's extra +0.3 (natural Grace-attuned weapons) still caps at the same 2.5 — it doesn't push you over.
Charged-attack caps (bows & magick staves)
Fully-charged attacks on bows and magick staves have a much higher Virtue damage cap than normal attacks — sometimes hard to hit without teammates' buffs. The cap scales with rarity and base damage and is not visible in-game (community-compiled, Spring Roll's spreadsheet). Don't treat the normal-attack cap as your ceiling.
Dual-virtue thresholds (weapons with two requirements)
Some weapons require two Virtue thresholds at once — both must be met to receive any attunement scaling; hitting only one gives nothing. Allocation strategy: just enough points into the weaker requirement, the rest into your primary Virtue (e.g. minimum Courage to gate a Courage + Spirit staff, rest into Spirit).
Build theory: single vs dual Virtue
- Joinery (P15) can only strengthen one attunement per weapon, so bows and magick staves effectively lock into a single-Virtue build.
- Dual-Virtue builds only really suit melee: use a dual-attunement weapon and reinforce one side with Joinery — melee weapons and their combos can carry two Virtues; ranged/caster weapons can't.
Virtue potions
Virtue potions give +10 to a matching Virtue and last 1 hour. Recipes are sold at the three faction shops — "very helpful for meeting virtue requirements" — a good way to hit a weapon or armour threshold temporarily without respeccing. (Potions don't skip dual-threshold gating: both requirements still apply.)
The pebble UI
In Arsenal → Virtues, the pebble UI shows the number being allocated while you drag, and the total including gear bonuses when you release — read your real contribution from the released number.
Which Virtue should you invest in?
Follow your weapon family first, Pact second — points are free to move per loadout in P15, so nothing is permanent.
Playstyle framing (community framing):
- Courage — the tank: frontline, heavy damage and survivability.
- Spirit — high-frequency casting, but glassy (fragile).
- Grace — agile and, in one community quote, "more of a tactical nuke than a cannon" — bursty and evasive rather than a sustained frontliner.
Concrete picks:
- Endgame weapons by lane: see the weapon tier list.
- Pact choice follows the Virtue you stack; the all pacts overview lists every Pact's lane.
Loadout planning steps
- Pick a weapon family — check gold/silver pips on the weapon page (e.g. Wulder = Courage, Thistle = Grace).
- Allocate points until you meet the weapon's attunement requirement — below requirement = no bonus; dual-threshold weapons: meet both.
- Choose a Pact whose Arcanic slots align: 1st = Courage, 2nd = Spirit, 3rd = Grace.
- Socket Runes and Talismans on the matching Virtue trifecta slots.
- P15: respec free per loadout — no Virtue Lith needed.

FAQ
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| How many points at max rank? | Start 16, +1 per Envoy Rank — exact cap depends on your current rank; check the Virtues panel. |
| How many pips before I cap out? | Attunement caps at 5 pips (2.5 damage/point); marked by a gold-trimmed pip row (community-measured). |
| Do Virtues boost Pact abilities? | Yes — each Virtue empowers its matching Arcanic slot (1st / 2nd / 3rd), and Spirit cuts all Arcanic cooldowns (1.5% per point over 2). The Strength / Duration / Range mapping is community-reported. |
| Can I mix Courage weapons with Spirit pact? | You can, but you spread points and may lose attunement on your main weapon — usually bad for DPS. Dual-Virtue only suits melee with a dual-attunement weapon + Joinery. |
| Virtue Lith in P15? | Removed — free respec per loadout only; do not farm Lith. |
| Do talismans count toward attunement requirement? | Talismans boost stats on trifecta slots; weapon pip requirements use your allocated Virtue total — verify in Arsenal UI. |
| What do Virtue potions do? | +10 to a matching Virtue for 1 hour; recipes at the three faction shops — handy to hit a threshold without respeccing. |
| Reset between Organ and siege? | Use separate loadouts in Arsenal — e.g. high Courage for Organ climb vs Grace bow for overworld Agari. |
Common mistakes
- Ignoring silver pips — they still contribute at half weight in the attunement formula.
- Locking into one split before trying free P15 respec — test 2–3 loadouts before endgame crafting.
- Ignoring the 5-pip / 2.5 cap and over-investing past the point where extra pips add nothing.
- Putting points into only one of a dual-threshold weapon's requirements — both must be met for any scaling.
- Wearing an armour piece whose Virtue requirement you don't meet — you silently drop to its lowest rating.
