Quick answer — how to get runes & equip a rune

Equip a rune (journal objective)

If your journal tracks Equip a Rune (or similar), the steps match the Nightfold Arsenal flow after Tuvalkane is unlocked:

1. Complete The Steelsinger — recruit Tuvalkane and open the Nightfold forge.
2. Loot a rune that matches your weapon type (see how to get runes below) or buy upgrades with Harmony later.
3. Nightfold → Arsenal (bookcase in your tent) → right-click a weapon → equip the rune in the central Rune slot (totem slots flank it; a fourth totem slot opens when a rune is equipped).
4. In Controls & keybinds, assign Rune Activation; in combat, Pull Smite (Spectral Sight + light attack) banks and triggers rune charges.

Not Joinery: Reforging at Tuvalkane adds Virtue pips from Joineries — separate from rune sockets. Chordstone Refine and Oden Tempering are also separate tracks (Chordstone refining · Oden Tempering).

Enchanting (Runes + Totems)

• The in-game Enchanting screen = Runes (central slot) + Totems (Attack / Defence / Utility on the Virtue trifecta).
• Smite loop: light an enemy soul → Pull Smite refreshes your active rune and recharges Arcanics — pair with Totems P15 picks.
• Preludes 15: UI may say Talisman; old inventory totems migrated to Harmony — read official patch notes before mass-deleting gear.

Koga (Cogah) combat rhythm

These habits apply in Elite hunting Cogah rooms and other high-pressure P15 content. They pair with Totems P15 — community overview: nine-pack build tips (Jul 2026). Verify in your client; numbers and bugs change per patch.

Build Smite into your opener

1. Before engaging, prime Arrow Hail and/or Orbit Blades so the first kills can spawn Smites.
2. Totems that only work from the active hand must sit on the weapon you hold when you Pull Smite — switch back to that weapon before pulling.
3. Make “generate Smite → decide whether to Pull” part of your normal rotation, not a panic button.

Boss fights: charges first, ads second

1. Spend a few Rune charges on the boss while adds are still alive.
2. Kill adds and Pull their Smites to refresh Rune charges and Arcanic cooldowns.
3. Finish the boss with your restored burst window.

At high Cogah levels, add one more habit: activate a Rune charge immediately before Pulling a Smite on a kill — community guides describe this as a “free” kill that does not cost a charge you would otherwise need to farm back.

Suggested workflow order

1. Pick up or craft a base weapon (Tuvalkane or world drop)
2. Refine with Chordstones if the drop is worth keeping (Chordstone guide)
3. Temper Oden metals if the piece is on that track (Oden Tempering)
4. Socket Runes and Totems in Nightfold Arsenal
5. Reforge with Joinery last when you want extra Virtue pips on a keeper
